Living in school bus and a tiny home doesn’t mean you can’t have and love beautiful things.
Could you live in a school bus?
If you love beautiful things you will enjoy this interview with Baylie. She’s a mother of three, entrepreneur, tiny home and bus dweller, that loves her beautiful stuff. If you ever thought about paring down and putting limits on buying stuff – but you just love shopping too much – this one is for you!
Tell us about your family, who you are, where you live and things that you love:
We cramp a family of five into a 204 sqft Tiny House in the summertime, we enjoy and flourish in a very intentional slow life full of gardening and home cooking in the PNW. Then in the winter we experience the opposite, we load into our skoolie and head out on the road as full time travelers. This time we are heading to Disney World, where we will live on campus in our bus, and homeschool!
When did you first hear about minimalism and what was your initial reaction?
I am a minimalist in a different sense of the word. I really do love and enjoy things, but our space is minimalist. For us the sacrifice was to get out of debt, at the time my husband was a teacher, they get paid squat and it was important for our family for me to be a stay at home mom. Now that we have reached all the financial goals we are sticking to it because we love it so!
What do you find most challenging in trying to live with less stuff?
I love to shop! It truly does bring me joy to go out and see all the pretty things. My friends are just really lucky. Instead of buying things for me that wont fit in our small space, I give gifts to my peeps.
What do you find most rewarding in trying to live with less stuff?
Because we opted for a non traditional home and less stuff, we were able to pay off all of our debt when I was in my 20s! This has given us the opportunity to live free and travel often.
You guys live in a school bus: do you see any challenges (older, bigger kids, retirement, etc) to continuing with this lifestyle in the future?
Our space will soon bring a challenge when everyone wants for more privacy. Our goal is to buy an old farm house to call home but without the traditional mortgage! We wish to buy outright, so that will take us a few more years of saving.
